Elspeth Beard

We've written about Elspeth Beard before - but couldn't help post this video by BMW Motorrad. Globetrotter. Visionary, dreamer, doer. One of my role models.

Elspeth Beard is one of a select band of bold women to ride a motorcycle around the world, and she was the first Englishwoman to do so. She achieved this feat thirty years ago, in the days before sat-nav, internet, email and mobile phones, and she did it mostly alone.

Globetrotters: Anne France Dautheville

So many great figures in history that have achieved what most of us dream of. Anne France Dautheville was a Journalist and writer, and in 1972, she rode aMoto-Guzzi 750 to participate in the ‘Orion Raid’ (Paris France, to – Isfahan Iran) and then continued solo on to Afghanistan.

In 1973, she became the first woman to ride across the world solo on a motorcycle: Astride a Kawasaki 125, she trekked three continents and covered 12,500 miles. Interestingly, her personal style during these trips became an inspiration for a fashion lined for the famed Chloe's fall 2016 collection.

She's written twobooks of her journeys,  Une Demoiselle sur une Moto (Girl on a Motorcycle), published in 1973, and Et J'ai Suivi le Vent (And I Followed the Wind). We're really hoping an English edition will be published soon!
